10/27 blog
The argumentative essay that we read today by Michael Lewis was very interesting and it brought up a good debate in class. In the essay about tipping it left the issue of waiters and waitresses out because he knew that it was an entirely different subject and a completely different argument. The essay doesn’t bring p waiters because he knows that they are an exception and I felt like in class we didn’t recognize that it wasn’t about waiters until the end after we had argued about that topic for the majority of the time. Everyone in the class brought up good points and I saw all sides of the argument so it was hard for me to make a claim on the issue because I didn’t feel strongly towards one side, and everyone had good points that would make me look at the issue in both ways. I felt that we needed to address exactly what the writer was saying and the side that he was on and the issues that he brings up before we discuss it, and then we know what to say to either disagree or agree with him. For the most part I agree with Lewis and the points he has to make about tipping.
