Blog 10/1

After watching the first 2008 Presidential Debate between Senator McCain and Senator Obama, viewers can understand the two candidates views on foreign policy and national security. Throughout the debate you begin to notice the different appearances, words, interactions, and tones.
The appearance of the two politicians were somewhat similar in their wardrobe, except for the ties. The ties although are a small detail, can be big parts of their appearance. For instance, John McCain's tie was a red white and blue tie, which shows patriotism, and Obama's was a plain maroon tie. Hand movement is another detail that I noticed watching the program. Senator Obama's hand movements were constant, while doing the "political" fist clench with the thumb pressed against the pointer finger, a lot of politicians and famous speakers do this.
Another big piece of the discussion was the interactions between the two nominees. While both Senators were attacking each other, it seemed as if Obama was attacking McCain more, while McCain was only striking back in defense. McCain's attitude toward being attacked made him seem much more humble, which is a good trait for a president. Obama loved to push McCain's buttons, but did not get through, and instead made Obama look like an ass.
Overall the debate I believe was won by the Republican Party's nominee, Senator John McCain.
